  EXPORT MARKET DEVELOPMENT GRANT

General Information

  • Australian Government’s principal financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters.

  • Encourages small and medium size business to develop export markets.

  • Reimburses up to 50% of expenses incurred on eligible export promotional activities, less a threshold.

  • Provides up to eight grants to each eligible applicant.

Eligible Product Criteria

  • a good made in Australia;

  • goods made outside Australia where Australia would derive a significant net benefit from its sale overseas;

  • all services except those specified as ineligible in the EMDG regulations;

  • a tourism service;

  • an event held in Australia;

  • an intellectual property right that mainly resulted from work done in Australia;

  • trademark that was owned, assigned or first used in Australia;

  • know-how that mainly resulted from work done in Australia.

EMDG supports six Categories of Export Market Promotional Activities

  • Overseas representation and Marketing Consultants;

  • Marketing Visits;

  • Free Samples;

  • Trade Fairs, in-store promotions, international forums, private exhibitions, seminars and similar promotional events;

  • Promotional literature and other advertising material;

  • Overseas Buyers; and

  • Patents and trademark registrations.

Recent Changes to EMDG Scheme include:

  • Overseas visiting allowance to be increased to $350 per day;

  • Overseas representation will be capped at $200,000 per annum;

  • Marketing Consultants will be capped at $50,000 per annum;

  • Increase the turnover limit from $30m to $50m; and

  • Reintroduction of the export performance measure.
